Basil has several health benefits. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and essential nutrients for cardiovascular health. First native ti India, Asia and Africa however it grows in many regions around the world.
Basil is an aromatic herb used in a variety of ways however is mostly known for Pesto. Adding basil near the end of the cooking process and it will retain most of the essence and flavour.
Quick cooking tips:
- Add a few leaves of basil to tomato slices and mozzarella cheese as a tasty snack
- Throw a bunch of basil, pine nuts, olive oil and garlic to a food processor a blitz until smooth. Add in parmesan for a cheesy add-on.
- Add basil at the end of a stir-fry – ones including eggplant, cabbage, chilli, peppers and tofu.
